About the Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge

[ Outside Noises ]>>The Columbian white-tailed deer were
actually thought to be extinct in this area. And there were rumors that there
were white-tailed deer in this area. And some scientists finally came
out and they confirmed that yes, in these areas there is a
small remnant population of Columbian white-tailed deer out here. They just happen to be in these flat
agricultural areas that are behind dikes. And at that point, it was much more expedient
to just secure that area and call it a refuge than to try to move them
up into the river valleys. And so that’s why, that’s why this is
a Columbian white-tailed deer refuge.
